Netflix is planning to enforce stricter rules on password sharing. This means that if individuals not part of your household use your Netflix account, you may have to pay an extra fee.
By the end of June, there will be a crackdown on password sharing in the United States. However, Netflix has provided a profile transfer feature to lessen the inconvenience in the meantime.
The profile transfer feature on Netflix allows a smoother transition when removing friends and family from password-sharing. If you have decided not to charge your ex-partner or ex-roommate for using your account, they must create their own account.
The profile transfer feature allows users to bring their existing Netflix profile to a new subscription. This way, they can keep their watchlist, watch history, and personalized recommendations for shows like “Stranger Things” and “Wednesday.” It would be a hassle to start again with a brand new Netflix profile after investing so much time in building their preferences.
How to Migrate Netflix Profiles
We are here to guide you on how to transfer your Netflix profiles to a new Netflix account easily. By doing so, you can end the practice of sharing passwords. To get started, you must first activate profile transfers in your account and then carefully follow the given instructions.
- To transfer a profile, first check that profile transfers are enabled in your account. Then, log in to the account with the profile you want to transfer and use the Netflix website (not the app) to access it.
- To transfer a profile, click on it on the “Who’s Watching” screen.
- To change the language on Netflix, click on the small profile icon in the upper right corner of the website and then select the “Transfer Profile” link.
- You will be asked to enable profile transfers for your profile if you forgot to do so. This is a requirement before you can proceed.
- To prevent unauthorized profile transfers, Netflix has introduced a transfer hold time. To activate the feature, you must check the email of the primary account owner for a notification from Netflix and click the “Enable Instantly” button. If you don’t do this, the feature will be automatically enabled in two days.
- To finish the transfer, please respond to the instructions that appear on your screen. You must provide an email address and password to create the new account.
- That’s all! You can wish your friend or family member a great time watching Netflix on their personal account through the Netflix app or website. This means you no longer have to share passwords.
The Price for Password Sharing
It has been estimated that when Netflix starts charging for password-sharing, each person may have to pay an additional $3 to $4.
According to Netflix, subscribers will be asked to set a primary location for their accounts, but they will still be able to watch Netflix while traveling. However, it is currently not possible for U.S. subscribers to set a primary location.
Many Netflix subscribers are displeased with the recent measures to restrict password sharing. Reports suggest that Netflix may have suffered a loss of over 1 million users in Spain during the first quarter of 2023 due to enforcing this policy. It’s worth noting that about two-thirds of these users allegedly utilized someone else’s login credentials.
Save With an Ad-Supported Plan
If you want to save money while others use your Netflix account without logging them out, you should check out Netflix’s new subscription tier called Basic with Ads. For only $6.99 a month, you can watch Netflix in 720p HD with ads on one device at a time.
